Made exclusively for John Lewis in France from solid French oak, this rustically styled open top unit (to be used with the 2 door Bergerac vanille sideboard to create a dresser) has a distressed and washed look to create an impression of age and use. Inspired by 18th and 19th century French antiques, it has 3 drawers with metal handles and a balconied upper shelf. The timber is selected for its natural characteristics and given time to dry and age, so no two pieces will be exactly alike in colour or grain. Traditional production methods allow for movement in the panels as the wood slightly expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. The Vanille finish is achieved by using a white stain, a cellulose lacquer and finally transparent wax, applied by hand, to give a fresh country look. To maintain its natural lustre and counteract the drying effect of central heating, simply apply a natural beeswax a couple of times a year. Avoid the use of silicone spray polish and wipe up spillage with a damp cloth.
